Famous Pakistani poet Himayat Ali Shair passes away in Canada

Toronto (Web Desk): Famous Pakistani poet Himayat Ali Shair passed away in Canada on Tuesday at the age of 93, the Radio Pakistan reported.


Himayat Ali Shair was born on July 14, 1926, in India’s Aurangabad and later moved to Karachi after partition.

His first poetry book "Aag Main Phool" was published in 1956 and received the Presidential Award in 1958.

Himayat’s collection of poetry includes Mitti Ka Qarz, Tashnagi Ka Safar, Haroon Ki Awaz, which received Allama Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Award and Harf Harf Roshni.

He also worked for different films including Jab se Dekha hai Tumhe, Dil ne Tujhe maan liya, Daaman, Ek tera Sahaara, Kaneez, Mairay Mehboob, Tasveer and Khilona.

Several of Himayat's songs written such as Na Chura Sakogay Daaman and Jaag Utha Hai Sara Watan went on to become instant classics.

He received Pride of Performance Award for his literary services in Urdu literature from the president of Pakistan in 2002.
